Chapter 3: The Mentors’ Table
Growth happens best when students feel supported by someone who believes in them. That kind of support comes from mentors who listen, encourage, and guide with care.
Take a moment to read our bios and see who will be walking alongside your student’s journey!
A Word from the Brothers
Hello!
We’re the brothers behind Oak & Quill. Born in Alaska and now rooted in California, our own journey through school wasn’t always straightforward. As children of immigrant parents new to the U.S. education system, we often felt the pressure of expectations without knowing where to turn for guidance.
That’s why we started Oak & Quill: to give students the kind of mentorship we once needed — support that builds confidence, clarity, and a love for learning. We’re grateful you’ve taken the time to visit us, and we’re excited to be a part of your student’s academic journey ahead!

Hi, I’m Sam!
I am a Civil Engineering graduate from Georgia Tech and now work full-time as a project engineer in the Bay Area. I’ve been teaching for over five years, supporting students in everything from essay writing to college-level course work.
What I love most is bridging the analytical and the creative — from systems to storylines, formulas to meaning. I help students build creative metaphors for tough concepts, and offer grounded frameworks for ideas that often feel confusing or abstract. My goal is always to help students take ownership of their learning — to make it personal, engaging, and uniquely theirs..
In my free time, I’m usually chasing old hobbies or picking up new ones — whether that’s playing the guitar or trying out latte art.

Hello, I’m Jonathan!
I’m a passionate educator pursuing a Master’s in Teaching, with a background in Nutritional Sciences and Toxicology from UC Berkeley. From labs and hospitals to athletics and eSports, I’ve explored many paths — but education has always been the one that feels most meaningful.
I believe learning is a lifelong journey, and my goal is to help students embrace it with curiosity, confidence, and care. I also hold to the belief that both education and faith can be powerful guides through life’s challenges. Life can be complex — but learning shouldn’t have to be. I’m grateful for the chance to walk alongside students and families in their educational journeys.
Thank you for your interest in Oak and Quill Tutoring, and I hope to hear the ways we can support your family’s story in navigating education’s twists and turns.
